Mentorship Scenarios

01

Why it matters

One mark of a mature organisation is the ability to learn from its own experience. A mentorship program is a structured way for leaders to share their successes and missteps with curious, talented, less experienced colleagues. Research (Global Leadership Forecast, 2018) shows that organisations with structured mentorship programs fill critical positions 23% faster, see 20% lower employee turnover and are 1.7 times more likely to retain organisational knowledge and experience. Despite these benefits, only 36% of organisations have a formalised mentorship program in place.

02

Who it’s for

Organisations that want to:

  • grow talent and protect their leadership pipeline;
  • pass on and capture knowledge about how the organisation actually works;
  • enable effective reverse mentoring across generations;
  • strengthen connections across functions, levels, generations and stakeholder groups.

Methods and approach

  • We hold the view that the right motivation among mentors and mentees is the key to a successful program.
  • Every organisation has a unique internal culture, and the mentorship scenario is tailored to it. Our experience shows that the most effective programs are structured 1 to 1.5-year processes, designed and supervised together with the organisation.
